Spring Fling 2025 KidLit Contest
Here is my entry for the annual Spring Fling Contest. The challenge is to write a 150-word children's story about a Spring related GIF.

The Sound of Spring
Lil' Hickory leaned against the fence and thought, "Please let me get selected this year."
But each kid passed over the grainy, wooden bat in favor of brand-new, metallic models.
"PLING!"
"PLONG!"
"PLUNG!" echoed the metal bats as they hit sharp, line drives.
Hours passed while Lil' Hickory watched longingly.
Then, to his surprise, young Abigail picked him up, "What about this one?"
"Yes!" cried Lil' Hickory.
Abigail stepped to the plate and squeezed Lil' Hickory tight.
The pitcher grunted as he fired a blazing fastball -
"Swing!" shouted Lil' Hickory.
But Abigail didn't react.
"Now!" he screamed.
Abigail stood frozen.
"Too late," thought Lil' Hickory.
Suddenly, Abigail exploded forward, snapping her quick wrists.
Lil' Hickory whistled through the strike zone and unleashed a resounding
"KRAAACK!"
It was the iconic, unmistakable sound of a wooden bat belting a baseball.
It was the sweet sound of Spring.
